The Biomedical Research Centre at Guy’s and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT) and King's College London, is one of only five National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) comprehensive Biomedical Research Centres in the UK.
Our key focus is on 'translational research' which aims to take advances in basic science out of the laboratory and into the clinical setting in order to benefit patients at the earliest opportunity.
We are excited at the very real prospect of developing new diagnostic tests and medical treatments, that will not only have a major impact on the way we manage and treat diseases at Guy's and St Thomas' and at partner Trusts, but also more widely across the NHS and beyond.
We aim to:
-
expand our translational research pipeline across a wide range of diseases and conditons
-
develop state-of-the-art facilities for patient based experimental studies
-
invest in the latest technologies
-
develop future leaders in translational medicine by creating an environment that provides excellence in training
-
engage actively with our diverse local population, partners and stakeholders
-
disseminate the outcomes of our research and drive new treatments and improvements in patient care
R&D Operational Capability Statement
The NIHR has adopted the Research Support Services framework for local health research management. The framework of good practice allow Governance and Research & Development staff to offer a consistent professional streamlined service to support clinical research in the NHS in England. To comply with the framework all Trusts are required to complete and publish an R&D Operational Capability Statement (RDOC). The RDOC sets out the organisation's commitment to health R&D and the related roles and responsibilities within the organisation.
The statement provides researchers and research organisations with an operational overview of key contacts within the organisation, resources available to support Research & Development and an overview of research collaborations and partnerships. The GSTT capability statement will be reviewed and updated on a regular basis.
Read the GSTT R&D Operational Capability Statement for more information.
